Scarborough Castle, North Bay, Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Scarborough Castle dates back to the 12th century during which period Henry II strengthened its walls to provide a strategic northern base for the English monarchy. Centuries later, a certain Mrs. Tomyzin Farrer discovered the medicinal properties of the local water and the first seaside spa was born. The ruins of Scarborough Castle are flanked by the two bays that make up what has remained one of England’s most popular and convivial holiday resorts.
